Preserving the Divine Institution of Marriage

Last night I attended the Proposition 8 broadcast, it was very informative and in many ways emotional. Although, I had heard a few facts about this subject I had no idea the whole ramifications. For myself I was mostly effected when they talked about how the Catholic Adoption Agency had to shutdown in Massachusetts because they would not include Gay couples in their adoption process. As many of you know I have a brother and sister-in-law going through LDS adoption with the hope of adding a new addition to their family. It scares me to think that should this Proposition not pass they might be in jeopardy of staying with this process that is affordable and available to all.

If you want more information concerning this important measure being passed please click on the title to this blog. Here is the information I have thus far.

  • Having tolerance without condoning.
We can love someone while still maintaining and advocating our standards and beliefs.
  • Unless Proposition 8 passes, California society will soon undergo a profound change in its basic understanding of marriage and family life.
That will affect everyone in numerous ways. Over time, greater acceptance of nontraditional marriage will be demanded of all people. This could impact the ability of any religion to teach and practice its beliefs.
  • Proposition 8 will not hurt gays.
In California, the law provides for marriage-related benefits to be given to civil unions and domestic partnerships. Proposition 8 does not diminish these benefits.
  • Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt children.
If gay marriage remains legal, public schools will put it on equal footing with traditional marriage. Children will likely receive “age appropriate” information about sexual relations within heterosexual and homosexual marriages.
  • Failure to pass Proposition 8 will hurt churches.
The court’s decision will inevitably lead to conflicts with religious liberty and free speech rights. Society will become more and more hostile to traditional beliefs about marriage and family.

Sarah Palin Rally

I went the the Sarah Palin Rally today. It was really interesting! The line to get inside was really long, you had to go through a metal detector so it took a while. As we made our way in of course their were a lot of protesters. It was pretty funny. I mean really why protest to people who have obviously already made up their mind. They should be out protesting to the undecided. When we got there all the seats were gone and we stood in the back, as you can see I got a lot of great shots of her back! Jon Voight came out first and spoke and then a few other people until she came out. Enjoy the photos!

Happy Birthday to Me!!!

I had a really nice birthday, on Monday Liz came to my work and surprised me with a bunch of very beautiful flowers, that have been opening all week! Then we had lunch together. On Tuesday I got to work early and there on my computer screen are cutout pictures of people from The Office. I opened a few drawers and there are more of them. Just yesterday I went into a folder and out popped Creed. Then one of my co works came in and told me she brought me a gift, she had put my stapler in Jell-O! She also gave me a Birthday card from The Office characters with things like Meredith wishing me a Happy Birthday and inviting me to go out with her to get some drinks. Then mom and I went to lunch on Wednesday. So over all a fun and nice day.
